French Butter Dish, peat
Enjoy bread & butter without tearing your toast! The unique design of a French Butter Dish/Butter Keeper allows you to keep butter at room temperature, the perfect spreading consistency, while protecting it from oxygen that would otherwise turn it rancid.
To use the French Butter Dish, pack butter into the lid, then put water into the base so that it is about 1/3 full. To prevent mold use salted water, especially for unsalted or low-salt butter. Keeping crumbs out of the butter will also prevent chances of mold growth. When the inverted lid is on, the water creates a seal that keeps oxygen away from the butter and the butter will be held in by the surface tension.
Only pure butter will work – “spreadable” butter mixtures have margarine blended into them which makes it too oily to stay in the lid. When you want to serve the butter, simply remove and turn over the lid. The water should be changed at least once a week.
Microwave and dishwasher safe.
